Russia will view ‘coalition of the willing’ in Ukraine as reoccurring threat — Medvedev

The politician mentioned that mandates to maintain peace and security are traditionally associated with the UN Security Council

ST. PETERSBURG, May 20. /TASS/. If the coalition of the willing sends troops to the conflict zone in Ukraine, Russia will treat it as a re-emerging threat with all the consequences that could ensue, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said.

"So, if troops of the so-called coalition appear in the conflict zone, in violation of the above-mentioned principles, will certainly be regarded as a reoccurrence of a military threat with all the consequences that could entail, up to and including their designation as a legitimate military target," he said at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.

Medvedev mentioned that mandates to maintain peace and security are traditionally associated with the UN Security Council.

"There are certain principles that stipulate for consent of the parties to the conflict, impartiality of the mission, including its military component, and obligation to refrain from the use of armed force except for self-defense," he said.

These conditions, according to the official, rule out any presence in Ukraine of the armed forces of the countries that sent it money, weapons and mercenaries and picked a side in the overt hybrid war against Russia.
