Trump wants peaceful resolution, ceasefire in Ukraine — White House

"Donald Trump is working very hard to fix it," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said

WASHINGTON, May 19. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump is seeking a ceasefire and a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters.

"He has made clear throughout the entirety of this conflict, since he inherited it from Joe Biden - don't forget, this is a war that began because of the previous administration's incompetence and weakness, and President Trump is working very hard to fix it - he has made it clear to both sides that he wants to see a peaceful resolution, a ceasefire, as soon as possible," she said.

Earlier, Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform that he was planning on speaking by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin at 10 a.m. (5 p.m. in Moscow) on May 19. The US president said that he wanted to discuss a Ukrainian settlement and trade issues. Trump added that, following the conversation with the Russian leader, he will speak with Vladimir Zelensky and leaders of NATO countries. Putin and Trump previously spoke on March 18.
