DUBAI, May 20. /TASS/. At least 43 people fell victim to the Israeli army's bombing and shelling in various areas of the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, the Qatar-based Al Jazeera TV channel reported.
According to the outlet, Israel's army dealt the heaviest blow to Gaza City and the enclave's central area. A total of 126 people were killed as a result of shelling in the Gaza Strip on Monday, the TV channel noted.
On March 18, the Israeli army resumed fighting in the Gaza Strip, launching massive attacks on the Palestinian enclave and violating a ceasefire reached in January. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained that the radical Palestinian movement Hamas refused to agree to the proposals put forward at the talks by mediators and US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff, saying that the goal of the operation in the enclave was the release of all hostages. The radicals blamed Israel and the US for the resumption of hostilities.
On May 18, the IDF announced the launch of combat operations in the northern and southern Gaza Strip under its large-scale Gideon's Chariots ground operation.
